Possibly: Tough to say without seeing the rash or knowing his history. At the very least i think you should call his pediatrician or primary care physician, describe the symptoms, and see what they recommend. If you are unable to get through to them, then i would suggest taking him to the er for an evaluation.

If well, wait: If the child is otherwise well, has not been on medication, is eating and drinking and playing, wait. It most likely is a viral exanthem (rash). Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is useless against viral rashes or viral infections. Is the child itchy or showing signs of an allergic reaction? Those would be uses for Benadryl (diphenhydramine) or other antihistamine.
