Unlikely but possibl: I know how worried you may be. Without the results of your us, it's hard to comment but I have to trust there were no suspicious findings or your doc would have referred you. Have you done a ca-125 level? If that is elevated, i'd rec a referral to a gyn-onc given your family history. Also, have you considered testing for the brca 1/2 genes? If positive, there are certainly some proactive steps.

Ovarian cyst: If you are done with childbearing, you should no longer have your uterus, tubes, and ovaries. The recommendation is remove them all 5 years before your youngest relative!

Can not say?: Apparently the ultrasound was showing enlarged left ovary which can be from a cyst, endometriosis affecting the ovary, benign tumor and rarely cancer. Your doctor does not feel it is cancer and tobe safe wants to repeat the ultrasound in three months you can get the genetic test done for cancer gene1(brca1)and (brca2)and(hnpcc) if that gene was positive in your mother if too coverned get second opi.
