Can you improve eyesight by getting diabetes under control?

Yes: Yes, diabetes can cause both short and long term visual problems some of which are reversible and some which are not. The best way to prevent and potentially reverse some of the visual trouble from diabetes is to control blood sugar. An endocrinologist (a doctor who specializes in diabetes and similar disorders)can help you with blood sugar control.

It's possible: More importantly, you can prevent worsening eyesight by controlling blood sugars. Although some vision loss from diabetes is reversible (cataracts, early swelling in the back of the eye), many changes become permanent with time and increased blood sugar levels. Tight blood sugar control can slow the vision loss to a near halt.
