How long does vomiting associated with intussusception last?

Until it clears: Intussusception is an obstruction of the bowel, so nothing can pass; therefore, the vomiting lasts until the obstruction is fixed by surgery or enema. Sometimes the obstruction may clear by itself, but i wouldn't count on that. Remember, you will not vomit very much if there is nothing taken in by mouth, so the vomiting is not continuous.

12 - 24 hours: After the intussusception is reduced it should resolve very quickly. If symptoms remain present medications to prevent nausea can ber used. If surgery is required it may take 2-3 days before normal bowel function resumes.
