Yes: Benign only means not cancer! they need close watching with serial ct scans or chest x-rays done over several months and biopsied by consultant if there is any hint of activity! I have seen many instances unfortunately of these so called benign nodules turn into very aggressive deadly lung cancers in as little a six months from first discovery! they must be monitored more frequently!

Yes: But there are very few truly benign solid tumors that occur in the lung. The only type seen with any frequency are hamartomas. Lung nodules that are made of scar do not generally grow except when they form, granulomas are burnt out infections that also don't grow. Any solid lung nodule that is increasing in size needs to be proven not to be cancer with biopsy
