Lymph nodes: Lymph is a fluid carried in channels called the lymphatic system. Lymph nodes are stations along that system. Cancers arising in the lymphatic system are either primary (blood-derived) cancers or metastatic cancer (from other places that have entered into the lymphatic system). Blood-derived cancers can be screened by blood test, but an enlarged lymph node is usually biopsied for diagnosis.
