A member asked:

How often on average is sepsis the cause of low white blood cells?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Less common : Usually the white blood cell count rises with sepsis, but about 10% of cases have an initially low wbc. This is actually a poor prognostic sign. Even when initially low, the WBC typically rises in the next few days.
