Borderline: Your a1c is borderline. Diet and increased exercise may lower your a1c. Consultation with an endocrinologist may be of use now.

Need more info: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor. However, exercising 30 minutes a day and losing about 10% of body weight may keep it from getting worse. Wish you good health!

Pre-diabetes : You may have prediabetes. The A1c test is dependent on the turn over of red blood cells in your body. Is that a fasting sugar. If so minimally above normal. This minimal high sugar tends in part support that you have pre-diabetes. More testing is needed. Metformin is helpful in prediabetics to prevent getting diabetes and heart disease
