Probably not: Metformin is used to control high blood sugar in diabetes, but generally doesn't lower blood sugar to dangerous levels. In my practice, my patients rarely gain weight on medicines like abilify (aripiprazole). Weight gain may occur when the medications dull the sensation of fullness, so people tend to not realize how much they eat. I recommend to all my patients to watch their portion sizes, and they do well.
