There is no: Absolute number. The lower the better. Normal a1c is less than 6.0% normal blood sugar values can be found at diabetes.Org. Weight loss is essential. Get as much diet and diabetes education as you can and follow their instructions.

I do take metformin (500) twice a day, and I eat "fair" - do you think that I should be taking a statin to lower cholesterol? I went from an overall 220 to 270 number over the last year. My fasting BG is anywhere from 90 to 120, and my last A1C test came in at 6.4 cholesterol reading
