Game Addictions: Yes. It's up to parents to take the games away from the children after 15 minutes so that they can engage in more interpersonal ways or other activities, such as reading and studying. Too many parents use video games as a "baby-sitter.".

Maybe: 8 year olds normally can go through obsessive phases which they grow out of (i.e. Collecting comic books, or learning about dinosaurs). The child's functioning is not significantly impaired in these normal phases. They go to school, have friends, etc. If the child's functioning is impaired by the obsession, you should seek evaluation and possibly treatment with a child psychiatrist or psychologist.

If allowed, yes.: The aap recommends a maximum of 2 hours/day media & gaming time. Risk of obesity goes up exponentially after 2 hrs. It also recommends not putting a tv/ game system in a child's bedroom. So, take it out of his bedroom & put it where you can control & monitor its use. Make a chore chart so he earns 15 minutes of gaming time for completing a task up to the max 2 hours. Physical activity 1 hr/day.
