Canker sores: Canker sores are a type of mouth ulcer. They can be caused from viral infections, a mouth injury, aggresive tooth brushing, biting the cheek or tongue, emotional stress or hormonal changes. Treatment is palliative...The sores will usually heal by themselves in 7-10 days. Stay away from hot, spicy foods. Non prescription orabase ointment can be applied before meals.

Laser: The use of a laser like the biolase md laser can immediately stop the pain caused by a canker sore and heal it quickly.

Salt water swish: Early on, you can try a salt water or hydrogen peroxide swish and spit. If the symptoms persist past a few days or recur frequently, see your dentist or doctor for an antimicrobial mouthwash, cortisone medication, or other solution.

Canker Sores: Canker sores are due to herpes simplex virus type 1. It is very very common. A ton of things can cause recurrent outbreaks. You can buy over-the-counter treatment or see your primary doctor who can prescribe as needed tablets for outbreaks or might opt to put you on daily suppressive therapy. Hsv-1 is painful and unsightly, but don't worry because stress only makes them happen more often.

The term "cancer sore" can also refer to apthous ulcers that occur on the wet mucous membranes inside the mouth. These are not thought to be due to herpes virus and they will not typically improve on herpes medications. Daily suppressive therapy with these medications (acyclovir/ famcyclovir etc.) will not usually be effective.

Just another option: Yes the medicine can help cut the cycle down in number of days. If you don't like medicines and can tolerate the discomfort you don't have to take it, but will take 14 days for healing on its own. Discuss laser as an option with you dentist for next time the canker sores startto appear.

Canker sore medicines are designed to make you feel a little better, but don't do much for actually accelerating the healing. Time is your best healer for canker sores. Expect about 10-14 days.

Yes! : Minor canker sores heal in about 2 weeks by themselves or 14 days with treatment. :-) treatment can take the pain away, though. Major canker sores dan take much longer to heal.
