Many things: Eating can be a popular outlet for painful feelings -- but if binging on processed foods (sweets, chips, etc), it's exactly what you don't want to be doing. Exercise can help -- you can even get a dog. They are good company plus s/he gets you outside walking. Do something w/friends. Volunteer. See your doctor for evaluation & treatment of depression. Talk therapy is part of this.

Mood & Food: Great recommends on exercise, volunteerism, healthy nutrition & med eval by dr. Pappas. Some people eat when they are depressed, angry, bored, tired or frustrated. Identify your triggers & journal it. Explore your feelings before putting food in your mouth. If you are about to eat due to feelings alone & you feel you must put something in your mouth, make it water. Over eaters anonymous helps.
