Recommended: A pneumonia shot will not prevent you from having pneumonia, but it will greatly reduce your risk of dying from pneumonia. If you have lung problems, the vaccine is recommended. It is also recommended to get a yearly influenza vaccine.

Absolutely!: The "pneumonia shot" is a vaccine against streptococcus pneumoniae, a very common and potentially deadly bacteria. It does not prevent all pneumonia, but it can protect you against this bacteria. This is a must for someone with copd, as is the flu shot. I have seen this bacteria, streptococcus pneumoniae, kill people.

Yes...: The pnemovax shot will decrease the risking of someone with COPD contracting pneumococcal pneumonia, a common form of bacterial pneumonia. A COPD patient should get this vaccination. See your doctor so it can be given, if you have copd.
