COPD: COPD is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. On xray...One will very commonly find hyperinflated lungs (by rib counting..Rough and dirty way). You should have pft's if you haven't already. Your not smoking i hope. There is good medical treatment out there. Go to your pcp or pulmonologist.

Probably asthma: Asthma is very similar to COPD in many ways. The symptoms , pfts, & treatments overlap . In both conditions there is obstruction to airflow because of narrowing and inflammation of the bronchi/ air tubes, thus a chest xray may show hyperinflation. Asthma is typically reversible while COPD is not. It is crucial not to smoke in either condition. In any case hyperinflation can be seen with either.
