A member asked:

I am in the hospital stage 4 copd, the patient just came into the next bed with pneumonia, how dangerous is that for me?? concerned!!

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Probably not: Bacterial pneumonia is generally not very contagious. If someone has viral pneumonia, it can be spread on hands and other contaminated surfaces. In those cases, as long as healthcare staff wear gowns and gloves and changes them between patients, the danger of spreading a virus is much less. Influenza virus can be spread through droplets but usually only through face-to-face contact.
