Comorbitities: Having diabetes and COPD puts him at risk for recurrent pulmonary infections. It is not uncommon for a patient to get multiple infections over the course of a year. His increased age is a risk factor as well. You need to make sure he avoids sick contacts and tries to control his underlying diseases as best as possible.

Hmmm...: Recurring "pneumonia" usually means there is something else going on. If this is truly pneumonia, more testing is likely in order to evaluate if there is something blocking the airway or there is an unusual organism causing the infection. What is more likely is that there is another explanation. This may be related to uncontrolled COPD or heart failure. Recommend seeing a lung specialist.
