Complicated case: COPD is a cause of respiratory failure that may lead to 'life support' on vent. Pneumonia is an independant factor that makes COPD pt harder to get off life support. Pseudomonous is an infection seen with chronic lung disease and can be hard to treat. Some people may be colonized and never clear but may not be an active infection. All combined is a difficult case to get off life support.
