Depends : A lot depends upon the technique. Some surgeons will do colostomy followed by a pull through at a later date. A pull through removes the diseased colon and allows the enervated intestine to function normally. If a trans anal pull through is done, normal bowel function ocurrs in several days with advancing to normal diet and discharge home.
