No: You can't get this as an adult. A patient has this since birth but the area involved maybe so small that the patient may have gone by without having too many problems . This is called short or ultra short segment hirshsprungs disease.

No: You do not get it as an adult. You are born with it. It is possible to be finally diagnosed with it by the time one reaches adulthood. There may be a possibility of acquired hirschsprung's disease occuring in adulthood. This is when normal ganglion cells are destroyed by infection or ischemia.

It is congenital: Hirschsprung is a congenital disease (present at birth). Symptoms may vary depending on severity. Very severe disease presents in the newborn period. Less severe disease may not be diagnosed until later in life.

Born with problem: Usually born with lack of ganglion cells in bowel. Can be short segment or long segment even involving the entire large bowel.Most cases are recognized in neonates. Sometimes if very distal short segment condition may not be diagnosed until adult life.
