Thumb pain: Would be concerned about an inflammatory or infectious reaction to the manicure. May want to have it looked at.

Infection: Infection form a paronychia could be present soak in warm soapy water, call a doctor you may need antibitoics nee to HAV the nail fold opened . These can progress rapidly and unles you are familar with how to open the nail fold ie youv had experience its better to have it looked at, at siimple office procedure followed by more soaks and use of prescription antibitioic ointment or orals.
