Ketosis: Some people will try to enter ketosis (through specialized diets or lengthy exercise) intentionally to better target "fat burning". Whether this is healthy and/or leads to sustained weight loss is controversial. But a calorie is a calorie, regardless of its storage or form. So you need a calorie deficit to lose weight. But it's not essential to be in ketosis to do this.
