Hard to tell: Panic attacks usually respond to drugs that raise serotonin (ssris--prozac zoloft Paxil Lexapro etc) Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) is a dual acting antidepressant that also raises norepinephrine which is stimulating--let your doc know what is going on.

Maybe: I agree with dr. Bey. Although antidepressants can be very effective for anxiety, sometimes they can increase anxiety in the beginning. Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) is a snri, meaning that it blocks the reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine in the synapse between nerve cells. Another name for norepinephrine is noradrenalin. Sometimes the increase in this can initially be activating. Please let your doc know.
