Is fibromyalgia real?

Yes: Although there are no tests, to date, that can confirm a case of fibromyalgia, it is real. Unfortunately it can only be diagnosed by history, physical and ruling out other diseases.

Fm multifactorial: What causes fm? 1changes in brain chemicals -- some people with fibromyalgia have abnormal levels of brain chemicals called neurotransmitters.2disregulation of the autonomic nervous system -- the autonomic nervous system releases hormones that affect how you react to stress 3 sleep problems -- the majority of people with fibromyalgia report sleep problems, and especially have trouble with stage 4.

Yes: Fibromyalgia is a multifactorial consequence of hormonal, immune system and nervous system dysfunction resulting from genetic predispositions and dietary and environmental insults. These factors impact your immune system and can lead to pain and inflammation. If affecting your joints-arthritis, if affecting your connective tissue and muscles - fibromyalgia.

Yes: Problem with the diagnosis is that the cause is multivariant. Different people come to the diagnosis from different causes. Injury to the pelvic girdle is a unifying concept that I have developed to explain this phenomenon. On my chronic pain board (free) on quora.Com, i describe the causes of fibromyalgia, and the rational treatments that follow upon the true cause.

I think it is REAL: As a neurologist, i saw articles in my journals about how this entity was not real and represented nonspecific symptoms, and this was not a unitary diagnosis. Studies of spinal fluid, pet scan results, and extensive research studies do confirm this is a unique syndrome arising from various causes, but resulting in a persistent pain syndrome.

Fibromyalgia: Fibromyalgia is a real syndrome but not a real disease. It is a group of symptoms( pain, depression, insomnia) that present together but there is no way to diagnose other than history and exam.

Without Question: The trouble is we doctors are trained to get evidence from clear clinical signs, x-rays labs and other technological studies. So far there is no effective diagnostic study other than carefully questioning and examining your patient. (something that needs done on all our patients anyway) it is my belief that this will ultimately encompass a family of 20 or so diseases including chronic fatigue.

Fibromyalgia: It is a real illness diagnosed after meeting criteria for multiple symptomatology and having ruled out other physical illnesses leading to symptoms. Like many chronic illnesses, proper treatment can ease discomfort and improve quality of life. Your primary care doctor can discuss tx options depending on your presenting symptoms.

Fibromyalgia: Fibromyalgia is still a bit controversial. There is not a blood test and no imaging study that can tell you that yes indeed you have fibromyalgia. That is where the problem lies. Some people do get significant secondary gain, so important to consider this. It is a real diagnosis and people are really experiencing all of the symptoms. Not everyone has the same path to fibromyalgia.

Yes: Fibromyalgia is real, but it is complex. The tender points are reporducible, but when biopsied there is no obvious changes to the muscle cells that are damaged. There seems to be a problem in the thalamus allowing the person experience painful stimulus too much.
