A member asked:

Why does vertigo get worse before getting better from possible inner ear infection that was untreated for 4 weeks but got antibiotics now?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Viral labyrinthitis: If you truly have an inner ear vestibular infection, it virtually never is the result of a bacterial infection. Unless you have a very serious infection of the middle ear, the vertigo, if inner ear in origin, is always viral. Antibiotics are never indicated for labyrinthitis. If you have a viral labyrinthitis, it may take several weeks to resolve. Symptomatic relief with meclizine.
