Yes and No: You should not use any narcotic medication for joint pain related to arthrograms. NSAID such as motrin or tylenol (acetaminophen) may help. I think that joint pains related to the arthrogram can in part be related to a patient's sensitivity to one or more of the drugs used in the study, but not an allergy as such. Many of my patients get good relief with adding 25 mg of benedryl orally with the NSAID.
