Better: To find out what is causing the swelling. Ask your podiatrist about the swelling.

Need more evaluation: Flex flat feet could cause swelling in foot and ankle but not constantly. You doctor could be right. Ask him about posterior tibial tendon dysfunction. Orthotics and bracing may help with this to decrease the swelling in foot and ankle.

I believe : There is something else wrong, a flexible flatfoot does not translate into a swollen ankle. If it did is your other ankle swollen? The flexible flatfoot may not be helping the problem. You state you are 20 years old, if you were 60, you can blame it on wear and tear. Can you share with us treatment options provided by your doctor?

Many possibilities: Some causes of swelling of the ankles can include systemic problems such as hypertension, and problems with the kidneys and localized issues such as arthritis, infection, lymphatic obstruction, blood clots, varicose veins, trauma (fracture, sprain, tendonitis) and side effects to medication. Have it evaluated by a professional and get the appropriate treatment.
