No: No. I don't understand how that could be possible logically. If you split any tablet, you half the dose. That can't make it more effective. Also, xanax (alprazolam) is not an extended release formulation so you won't get the drug into the blood faster by splitting it.

No: Splitting a tablet divides it into smaller portions and taking a fraction of the original dose. This decreases side effects, but also, efficacy. However, if you had a sustained release form and split it, the medicine might spill into your system much faster and cause significant overdose problems. Talk to your doctor as to whether the xanax (alprazolam) needs splitting for your indication.

Xanax (alprazolam): If it is extended release (xr), it is not advised to split the medicine. If regular xanax, (alprazolam) effectiveness when split is not increased, & might decrease slightly due to lower dose as well as loss of some of it thru crumbling when split.
