Med input.: Hello. I wouldn't change the dose without getting input and ok from your doctor. Xanax (alprazolam) was really designed for short term use. One of the problems with xanax (alprazolam) is that some people can develop tolerance to it which requires them to take it in progressivley higher doses to get the same effect. Take care.

Other meds safer.: Medications like zoloft and Lexapro are more effective and safer for the long run. Xanax (alprazolam) starts to lose its effectriveness in 1-2 months when used on a daily basis. At this time increasing doses and dependency starts to become a concern.
