Specializes in Pediatric Endocrinology

You need a pediatric endocrinologist to make sure everything is fine. Babies with low thyroid can have mental retardation if untreated.

Elevation of TSH with newborn screening absolutely needs follow-up. Perhaps newborn screening was done before 24 hours of life? Regardless, the risk of delaying possible treatment for congenital hypothyroidism means potential loss of iq points for the child. A pediatric endocrinologist must be consulted to determine if newborn screening was a false positive or requires treatment asap.
