Ask doctor: If bone is healed and hardware is believed to be source of problem, then it should be removed. That is unless there is another circumstance that would make removal unwise. That is why you and your doctor need to discuss.

Maybe infection: It could be hardware irritation or even a metal allergy. Another possibility is infection. Either way, you likely need to have the hardware taken out. Once the bone had healed, the hardware is no longer needed.
