Yes: Prolonged fasting activates the body's compensatory system in an effort to keep blood sugar normal. Simplified: gh, epinephrine, and cortisol levels increase. To lower the body's metabolic demands, thyroid hormone and igf-1 levels decrease. Growth is not enhanced by fasting.
