Intercostal strain: Most likely this is an intercostal muscle strain. A strain of the costochondral cartilage would be another possibility. Rest is the primary treatment for either one of these. I would recommend that you be pain-free with everyday activities for around 5 days before strenuous exercise. However, cardio training such as stationary biking and some medium-intensity walking may be tolerated now.
