Why are females more prone to urinary tract infections v males?

Anatomy.: The urethra is the tube that connects the bladder to the exterior of the body. Women have a shorter urethra than males, so bacteria have easier access to the bladder. Also, female urethras are close in proximity to the anus and vulnerable to contamination by gut bacteria. Bacteria from the anal area, such as e. Coli, are a common cause of UTI in women, especially those who are sexually active.

Short urethra: Female urethra is much shorter than male urethra , thus much easier for bacteria to reach the bladder. Pumping action of penis during sex can milk bacteria from around urethral opening up in bladder. Men don't wear thongs. Bubble- bath or soap do not reach male bladder when taking baths.
