What could cause my vocal cords n voice box to be swollen real bad n infected?

Not many things: If you are truly infected it must be with an organism of low pathogenicity. Tuberculosis, fungal infection, cytomegalovirus come to mind. But all this is unlikely. If your vocal cords are swollen for 6 months you should see an ENT doctor asap.
