Fat lump on thigh?

Remove it: The fatty lumps, not just fat itself, should be removed if they cause you any concern. Although nearly all of these are benign, they may get large and become obtrusive. They usually can be removed under local anesthesia as an outpatient.

Usually benign: Fatty "lumps" are usually lipomas, a benign overgrowth of fat cells. Local area liposuction, or simple removal through a small incision easily removes. However, there is a small possibility of liposarcoma which has malignant potential. So pathology diagnosis of anything removed should be done.

Likely lipoma: Usually these lesions represent a benign tumor called a lipoma. Resection is usually definitive, but recurrence is fairly frequent. Large size or certain features on MRI may raise concern for other types of tumors or involvement of important local structures, like nerves and blood vessels. Best treated by a surgeon with experience treating sarcomas, like a surgical oncologist.
