Gentle rinse: No over the counter meds will fix your problem if it really is infected. Try warm salt water, gently rinsing. You may have what is called a dry-socket. Call your dentist to re-check the site and make sure that you are healing properly.

Advil/allieve: Otc's are good for discomfort, however, if you truly have an infection you should be on something stronger than otc's.
