Gentle rinse: No over the counter meds will fix your problem if it really is infected. Try warm salt water, gently rinsing. You may have what is called a dry-socket. Call your dentist to re-check the site and make sure that you are healing properly.

Call your dentist: Your dentist should really have a look at and determine whether it is in fact infected or something else. If it is infected you will probably get some antibiotics. In the meantime if you have no other health concerns, you may consider ibuprofen, tylenol, (acetaminophen) or combination thereof for pain relief.
