Works Slightly Maybe: Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate & has been used for hundreds of years as a toothpaste. It is mildly abrasive (in contrast to some whitening toothpastes that are more abrasive) and may remove superficial stains on teeth. As a buffering agent, it will neutralize bacteria-produced acids and raise the oral ph, making etching and staining of the teeth less. It has only very mild decolorizing effects.

Whitening: Bleaching with baking soda and hydrogen peroxide in a slurry can whiten the teeth, but if your teeth get sensitive to air/cold or the gums burn discontinue. Their are many products dispensed at a dental office that work very well and better than otc. Discuss with your dentist so he can evaluated what would be best for your particular situation.
