Tooth whitening: As long as you use dentist supervised tooth whitening methods, you should have no problems other that perhaps some short term temporary sensitivity. Regarding your specific question, tooth whitening (bleaching) does not 'eat your tooth away.' there is some minimal surface roughness that re-mineralizes in no time.
