Why?: Why would you want to keep it? It is not healthy to have tartar buildup on your teeth, not to mention it's not pretty or smell very good. So go see your dentist to have it removed, and learn about ways to keep it from building up in the first place.

Tartar= tooth loss: Calculus or tartar is a form of hardened dental plaque. It is caused by accumulation of minerals from saliva and plaque. It will eventually cause gums and bone to receede , leading to tooth loss. . Brushing and flossing can remove plaque , but you must see a dentist to have the tartar removed on a regular basis. Once accumulated it is progressive, and impossible to treat on your own.
