What can be done for a jammed thumb?

RICE: Rest, ice, compression and elevation work for most strains and sprains. Otc antiinflamatories should help with pain. If it is numb, disfigured or persists see your doctor for an xray and evaluatin of the ligaments.

Thumb: A jammed thumb implies there is no fracture. However one must be careful in the thumb that a collateral ligament injury of the mcp joint is not missed. Dip joint injuries typically do not involve ligametns but a"mallet thumb" may present with loss of extension due to a tendon injury and it is missed due ot inability to appreciate that there is a loss of terminal extension
