Watch and wait: patiently. It sounds like the skin and small muscle of your thumb suffered a contusion from a pinch injury. The pricking sensation suggests some minor nerve damage that will very likely improve and go away on it's own. You may be able to sense this for several weeks ... maybe even up to 6 months. As long as it is slowly improving I wouldn't worry. If worsening, see your doctor. Good wishes:)
