A member asked:

What is done to evaluate a thumb injury?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Exam and x-ray: Fractures and ligament tears are very common injuries. An x-ray is obtained to check for a fracture and if none is found, a physical exam is performed to evaluate the collateral ligaments. Both the radial and ulnar collateral ligaments can be sprained or torn. Sprains resolve with immobilization, torn ligaments require surgical repair.
