What are some migraine prevention meds?

None: Migraines are caused by imbalance in the autonomic (automatic) nervous system. The commonest cause is poor diet, especially sugar and even more so diet drinks that contain aspartame. Try cleaning up diet if this applies.

Preventive drugs: You may want to try petadolex, a herbal extract of the butterbur plant, level a (highest) recommended by the american headache society in 2012. Patients seem to feel that it works and with benign side effects: http://www.Diditreallywork.Com/dirw_site/website/petadolex/report1 valproic acid and topiramate are fda approved for prevention of migraine, but have more side effects and need blood tests.

Agree with Dr Ho: Although there are several prescription items, my patients seem to favor otc preps, and many like the success of butterbur, also riboflavin, coq-10, feverfew, magnesium. Botox does work, acupuncture might help.
