Highly variable: Acute lyme symptoms can occur 3-30 days after innoculation and are generally non-specific flu-like symptoms, with a rash 70% of the time. This lasts a few days to a few weeks. "late stage" symptoms can appear within weeks of infection but in some cases don't appear for years. A healthy immune system may keep lyme at bay until another stressor occurs. I had a patient who was in good health until he got in a serious car accident and then quickly developed symptoms of late stage Lyme. It was clear he had been exposed years previously but had only had minimal symptoms until this stress. Others get late stage symptoms within weeks. For a good overview go to http://www.ilads.org/lyme_disease/lyme_brochures.html and click on "Primary Care Brochure." There is much other useful information on that website.
