Many things: In my extensive experience antibiotics alone are seldom for late lyme disease, which requires a comprehensive holistic treatment approach. Many with late lyme have impaired immune function, co-infections like babesia & other conditions that need treatment. Lyme bacteria have many strategies for eluding antibiotics. May take longer: Late lyme, disseminated throughout the body and often in cns, takes longer treatment to resolve. Several months. Also many docs will use more than one antibiotic, to get the different forms of the lyme bacteria, like the spirochete, the cell wall deficient form and the cyst form. Supplements that improve immune system function also speed up recovery.
