Scaly pink patches: Eczema is an inflammatory condition that is exacerbated by dry skin. Mild patches are usually pink rough finely scaly patches. At this stage, moisturizing can simply reverse the problem. If allowed to dry out more, the area can become more inflamed, and the area can appear more scaly and crusty, requiring prescription topical steroid to calm it down.

Mild eczema: Mild eczema often appears as dry skin -- itchy, mild red with flaking or some superficial scale. Mild eczema often responds to moisturizers and avoiding hot water and topical irritants.
