Maybe...: Sometimes a tooth that has broken off like this can be fixed by doing a root canal, placing a post in the tooth, and then crowning it. This does, however, require some solid tooth structure to work with. Many times when a tooth is broken off at the gum line however, there is insufficient tooth structure remaining and extraction is the only option. The tooth can then be replaced with an implant.
