Depends on age: A new baby (under 3 months) needs to go to a doctor. A 3-12 month baby can have a fever when there is an infection, and tylenol (acetaminophen) is used (for fevers over 100-101 degrees) to make the baby more comfortable and less fussy. Parents should observe the older baby to see what symptoms are present, and also talk with the doctor to ask whether the baby should be seen at the clinic or be observed at home.

Depends on age: Infants under 2 months should be seen by their physician the same day if they have fever >100.4. After 2-3 months it depends. As the immunity passed from mom fades, babies begin having common viruses and other issues that need monitoring. If they feed ok, play ok & stay on their regular routein;you can often monitor for a while. If grumpy, tylenol (acetaminophen) is ok. If this changes check with your doctor.
